As president and CEO of a Dallas, Texas-based business consulting company, Randall “Randy” Blum helps Fortune 500 corporations attract, retain, and train millennial employees. In doing so, he orchestrates various millennial efficiency projects and strategic initiatives. In addition to his professional endeavors, Randall Blum supports a variety of nonprofits, including the March of Dimes.

A nonprofit that performs advocacy work and delivers programming to support newborn and maternal health, the March of Dimes partnered with UnitedHealthcare in January 2021 to reduce racial disparities in health outcomes for mothers and their babies. UnitedHealthcare is the largest health insurer in the US, and is donating $2.85 million to the March of Dimes to support these efforts. This money will fund quality improvement efforts at hospitals with relatively high levels of maternal morbidity and mortality.

The rate of death as a result of complications from pregnancy for black women in the US is three times that of white women, and lowering that gap is a priority for both partners. UnitedHealthcare Community & State’s Chief Medical Officer Dr. Stephen Cha noted the insurer “sees great opportunity to accelerate action on evidence-based practices that have been shown to be promising in standardizing and improving care.” The March of Dimes, meanwhile, intends to collaborate with stakeholders such as health care providers, advocacy groups, and experts on black maternal health to improve these outcomes.
